A Leisurely Stroll Through Historic Ste. Genevieve
People have lived and worked in this quaint village for nearly three hundred years — quite a statement when one considers that the town is located in the middle of America and on the bank of the mighty Mississippi River. Despite the ravages of periodic flooding, the little town (nicknamed Miserere by the French) survived, although it was moved from its original location to slightly higher ground in the late 1700s. The population increased dramatically in the mid-1800s when a great number of German farmers moved west to settle in Missouri.
Ste. Genevieve's history has been documented in many books and publications. One of the most recent, and certainly the most picturesque, is Ste. Genevieve: A Leisurely Stroll Through History.
Photographer Bill Naeger, his wife Patti, and writer Mark Evans have published an engaging account of the town and its people. This coffee table book of 250 pages and 500 photographs, many of which are historic and gathered from the archives of townspeoplee. It is a book that seems to captivate even the most casual readers.
Book may be purchased from Bill Naeger at Merchant Street Publishing, 1.573.883.3221.
Purchase price is $39.95 plus shipping & handling.
