Press Release — not dated
It started simply enough: innkeeper, Karen Kulberg, was seeking a logo for the inn, something people would remember, something people would have a good reaction to. A magazine article showed wallpaper designed by William Morris in the late 1800s with a rabbit motif. Although far too complex a design to use as is, the rabbit shapes were easily extracted and manipulated a bit with a computer art program to create a more simple image. Later research revealed that Morris' rabbit pattern was actually created in 1882; the same year the Meyer Hotel (now Main Street Inn) was built.
Karen thought she was merely creating a logo, but the logo has grown into a diverse collection of rabbits that are still multiplying. (In the interest of clutter control, the collection is never displayed in toto, and is scattered about the property.) Guests regularly bring or send rabbits; sometimes antique, sometimes handcrafted, almost always charming. One particular guest and his wife, who, after complaining that there was no rabbit in their room, left a lovely pair of white ceramic rabbits on the chest of drawers.
And, for those guests who rise early, the wild rabbits who come to eat the clover growing on the north side of the building are often visible.
